The Sustainable, superior alternative to microplastics.

MERCEL’S patented core product of seaweed derived nanocellulose is natures replacement for microplastics and has proven to be technically superior to alternatives such as tree pulp, using significantly less energy, producing no toxic side streams and with greater water absorption if required, with 100%yield.

Our Process

Converted into two unique formats.

An unmodified fibril network [Algucel] as a single ingredient alternative to a combination of binders, stabilisers and emulsifiers in formulations, replacing many synthetic polymers such as Polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) as well as ineffective gums and unsustainable wood pulp products. A surface modified fibril network [Algumer] as a superabsorbent polymer replacement for petroleum product Carbomers and for highly effective binding and release of active ingredients.

These products allow brands to meet increasingly restrictive legislation on fossil fuel products and take a huge breath of relief in their quest to remove microplastics from their formulations.
